STAKEHOLDER engagements on the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill are gathering momentum across the country, as the ZANU PF party intensifies efforts to mobilise support within its structures.
Veterans of the Liberation Struggle in Masvingo Province reaffirmed their support for the bill after an interface with the national leadership, describing the proposed changes as progressive.
ZANU PF War Veterans League Masvingo Provincial Chairperson, Cde Gibson Mashingaidze, said the proposed amendments are aligned with the country’s development trajectory.
“As Veterans of the Liberation Struggle in Masvingo, we are not surprised by the move to amend our constitution because we fully participated in coming up with Resolution Number One in Bulawayo and in Mutare. We are in support of the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill because this is the direction that our party is taking and to us, it is progressive, it promotes unity among Zimbabweans and will propel economic development.”
ZANU PF Secretary for the War Veterans League in the Politburo, Cde Douglas Mahiya, took the opportunity to unpack the provisions of the bill, while reminding war veterans of their continued role in safeguarding national interests.
“We continue to engage veterans of the Liberation Struggle by unpacking the provisions of the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill, and we are encouraged by the positive response we are receiving here in Masvingo Province. They have expressed full support for the Bill and have assured us that they will actively participate in the upcoming consultations.”
ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Vice Chairperson Cde Trust Mugabe said they are working with the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle in cascading information about the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill to the grassroots.
“As we conduct our awareness campaigns about the Bill, we are happy with the participation of veterans of the liberation struggle. They are supporting us, giving guidance as always; hence, as a province, we are speaking with one voice.”
As consultations gather momentum, the meetings are expected to strengthen understanding of the bill and promote unity among community members.
