MASHONALAND West province has cemented its dominance in the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) athletics nationals, after topping the medals sheet with an impressive 47 medals at the two-day event held at Prince Edward School in Harare.
The province’s winning streak continues, having won the previous edition of the NASH nationals.
With 17 gold, 16 bronze, and 14 silver medals, Mashonaland West proved to be the best and unstoppable.
Mashonaland East came second, while hosts Harare province finished third with 38 medals.
The standout performer was sprint sensation Trey Chimunya, who claimed gold in the Under-20 boys 100m race with a blazing time of 10.20 seconds, while Mashonaland Central’s Sharlom Sendi led the girls’ charge with a time of 12.03 seconds in the same event.
Emmanuel Uriga of Mashonaland West also shone bright, scooping gold in the Under-20 boys 400m race with a time of 47.55 seconds.
Anesu Nyahuma of Mashonaland Central dominated the girls’ 400m event, clocking 56.78 seconds.
The NASH nationals also saw the selection of athletes for the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa games, set to take place next month.
Attention now shifts to the COCA-COLA Four-Minute Mile and semi-finals at White City Stadium in Bulawayo, with the final scheduled for the last day of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.
