Lady Chevrons suffer 9-wicket defeat to UAE in Tri-Series

Story by Anashe Murombedzi

The Lady Chevrons’ struggles continued as they were defeated by UAE by 9 wickets in the final round of the Capricorn Eagles Tri-Series at Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek this Friday.

The Lady Chevrons registered their fourth loss out of five games played so far, leaving them rooted at the bottom of the three-team table with just 2 points.

UAE, on the other hand, extended their lead at the top of the table to 10 points, making them strong favourites to emerge winners of the Tri-Series.

Hosts, Namibia remain in second place with 4 points.

In this Friday’s match, UAE won the toss and opted to bowl first, restricting Zimbabwe to 128 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Beloved Biza with 36 runs, Kelis Ndhlovu posting 32 and Chipo Mugeri Tiripano also with 32 top-scored for Zimbabwe, but their efforts were not enough to secure a win.

UAE’s batswomen made light work of Zimbabwe’s bowling, losing only one wicket as they posted 130 runs to meet the target in the 16th over.

The Lady Chevrons will now play for consolation points to finish when they face hosts Namibia this Saturday, a team they have already lost to twice in the competition.
