Lady Chevrons intensify World Cup Qualifiers preps

Story by Anashe Murombedzi, Sports Reporter

THE Zimbabwe women national cricket team, the Lady Chevrons, are in Mumbai, India, as they step up preparations for the International Cricket Council Women’s World Cup Global Qualifier slated for April in the United Arab Emirates.

The Lady Chevrons got their preparations for the global qualifiers underway when they hosted Ireland last month in an eight-match white ball series.

Coach Walter Chawaguta and his charges arrived in India on Tuesday and immediately got down to serious business, rubbing shoulders with Indian-based franchises.

“It can be anyone on any day, but we just try to control what we can in our bowlers and see where exactly we can bowl to ensure that our opponents are not comfortable on the crease,” said captain, Mary Anne Musonda.

The Lady Chevrons also had a two-week training camp in October last year for the World Cup Africa qualifiers which took place in Uganda last December.

Zimbabwe, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, UAE, USA and Vanuatu are preparing for the World Cup qualifying tournament set to take place in the United Arab Emirates in April.

The Lady Chevrons also have their eyes set on the African Games set for Ghana next month.
