ISLAND MUSIC CONFERENCE (JAMAICA)

Article by Clive Mono Mukundu

Travelling on it’s on is education, and if your purpose of travel is for educational purposes, you receive a double portion of knowledge. In Shona we say “Chitsva chiri murutsoka”.

That being said, I’ve just flown into Jamaica for a few days to attend The Island Music Conference. The conference covers an extensive range of topics, including copyright issues, artist management, AI, songwriting, music scoring, digital marketing methods, artist management & other topics.

The conference is scheduled with seven to ten sessions and events per day, spanning from early in the morning until late at night. However, I will still make an effort to take advantage of any free moments to investigate additional sources for learning important knowledge, such as speaking with fellow Jamaican musicians and producers.

I will just act as a knowledge sponge, soaking up whatever information I come across. You can call me Sponge-Mono for now.

The trip is courtesy of The Zimbabwe Ministry of Sports,Recreation,Arts & Culture. I would thus want to express my gratitude to the Minister, Hon. Kirsty Coventry, as well as to Dr. Samwanda, the ministry’s director of arts, Mr. Nicholas Moyo, the permanent secretary, who is also here in Jamaica with me, Mrs. Matemba, his P.A, and all other ministry personnel.
