Iran commits to expedite agreements signed with Zimbabwe

Story by Theophilus Chuma

IRAN’s new President, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed commitment to implementing various economic cooperation agreements signed with Zimbabwe last year under late former President Ebrahim Raisi.

Vice President Kembo Mohadi met with President Pezeshkian in Tehran, as he concluded a three-day visit this Wednesday.

Before departing for Harare, Vice President Mohadi highlighted their meeting focused on a number of key areas targeting to enhance cooperation between the two countries and will thus seek to expedite the implementation of at least 12 agreements signed by the late former Iranian leader President Ebrahim Raisi.

“We had a meeting with the new President this morning and we discussed a number of issues to enhance economic cooperation between our two countries. We have agreements from last year and he (President Pezeshkian) was very keen to see the agreements being implemented.

“We look forward to creating more economic opportunities between our two countries. I highlighted the safe environment in Zimbabwe and assured him of the safety of investments,” said the Vice President.

The 12 agreements signed last year include plans to establish a tractor manufacturing plant in Zimbabwe.

There is also scope for cooperation in energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications as well as science and technology projects.

“We have a very good relationship with Iran and we want to continue building on this cooperation,” said Vice President Mohadi.

Vice President Mohadi, who represented President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the inauguration of the new Iran leader, described his three-day visit as a critical pedestal to bolster ties with the Middle East nation.
