WOMEN and youths from Zvumwa area of Shurugwi District are benefitting from the empowerment drive in the mining sector, with most of them now running successful ventures.
This marks the end of an era where women in the mining industry were discriminated, as government partnered with the private sector to establish a chrome mining project, benefitting over 300 women and youths from Zvumwa area in Shurugwi North.
The partnership will see women and youths increasing their contribution to the economy.
“I am excited about the opportunities that the Second Republic has made available. It is truly remarkable to witness young individuals, both male and female, actively participating in the development of the small-scale mining sector,” a miner said.
“The President is walking the talk on his declaration that communities should benefit from natural resources that are found in their localities, and we are happy that as, women we are partaking in this economic activity,” a woman miner added.
Shurugwi North legislator, Honourable Joseph Mupasi said the partnership proves beyond doubt that the Second Republic is a champion for mass empowerment.
“We are grateful to the President for the exemplary leadership that he continues to show through his unflinching desire to empower our ordinary people. President Mnangagwa is walking the talk on leaving no one and no place. Our people will benefit and get a chance to participate in the economic mainstream as we continue to build our mining industry and aggregate the Gross Domestic Product of our province.”
Government has shown commitment to promoting the participation of women in the mining sector through availing equipment and creating an enabling environment.
