THE completion of a students’ accommodation block at Kushinga Phikelela Polytechnic College in Marondera is set to ease accommodation challenges for female students at the institution.

This comes after the government’s drive to prioritise funding stalled infrastructure projects in institutions of high learning.

The facilities, which are almost complete with final touches underway, are set to accommodate 172 students.

In an interview with ZBC News, Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, who was on a familialisation tour of the college, reiterated the Second Republic’s continued investment in critical infrastructure.

“I am told construction of the building began around 2000, but in the Second Republic, there has been rapid speed in development. That speaks of the work being done under the astute leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. It also speaks to the investment being done by the government in developing critical skills that will drive various sectors of the economy.”

After a tour of the college’s garment manufacturing plant and the institution’s workshops, Minister Ndudzo applauded the college’s remarkable progress in human capital development, productions and innovations that align with the Heritage-based Education 5.0 Model.

“I have been impressed by what I saw today, Kushinga Phikelela churning out quality products that are making an impact on all sectors of the economy.”

The polytechnic college currently has an enrollment of above 1 000 students.
