Golden Valley-Sanyati Road Rehabilitation gains momentum

Story by John Nhandara

GOVERNMENT’s commitment to modernise national road infrastructure remains on course, with the rehabilitation of the Golden Valley – Sanyati Road taking shape.

The road connects Mashonaland West and Midlands provinces, serving as a critical link for trade and travel between the two communities.

Motorists and residents have expressed relief at the prospects and merits associated with an improved road network.

“Rehabilitation of this road is a welcome development because we were having a torrid time to travel from Sanyati to Patchway,” a motorist said.

“This is the shortest distance to Midlands so we appreciate efforts to rehabilitate this road,” another one.

The contractor is working on the second phase of the project which involves rehabilitation of a 15-kilometre section of the road.

“We are working on 20 kilometres and targeting to complete 15 kilometres. So far, we have done two kilometres up to surfacing, seven kilometres of earthworks and we are expecting to surface another two kilometers by next week,” MOTID Construction’s Engineer Lovemore Munguri said.

“Golden Valley-Sanyati Road links Mashonaland West and Midlands provinces. What we are currently working on is stabilisation, which is the application of cement on our gravel. We have two phases under this road. We have completed the first phase and the section completed is now open to traffic,” Derivative Construction’s Projects Engineer, Engineer Tavonga Machiri said.

The project is part of government’s focus to enhance road infrastructure across the country, to promote connectivity, enhance trade and stimulate economic growth through sound infrastructure.

The rehabilitation of the Golden Valley-Sanyati Road comes at a time the 45th independence anniversary will be held in Gokwe, with the road being one of the major routes to the venue of the celebrations.

This year’s independence celebrations are running under the theme: “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030.”
