Four teams yet to taste defeat in the Northern Region

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sport Editor

THE Northern Region Division One League is promising fireworks this season with four teams.

New-boys Scottland FC joins perennial campaigners Harare City, Herentals Developmental Side and Black Mambas at the apex of the Northern Region Division one league with the quartet on six points after match day two.

Mabvuku-based Scottland shocked one of the pre-season favourites MWOS FC two-nil on Friday at Heart Stadium to open the weekend’s action on a high note.

Scottland who joined the league from Division Two this season, have been convincing in their first two matches.

Former premier league side Harare City thumped Agama three-nil to stay on top of the log on goal difference ahead of Herentals who also have six points and Black Mambas in fourth position with the same number of points.

In the Central Region, Blanket Mine and West Nicholson are the early pacesetters with six points from two matches and are only separated by goal difference after starting on a positive note.

On Saturday, Blanket Mine beat Black Eagles two-nil, while West Nicholson matched the result in their match against ZRP Gwanda.

FC Platinum Developmental Side, ambitious Kwekwe United and Dulibadzimu complete the top five with four points each.

In the Eastern Region, Triangle signalled their intentions early after walloping GZU 8-nil in the first match of the season.

Chiredzi-based Triangle were relegated from the Premier Soccer League last season and have since roped in veteran coach Arthur Tutani who has the proud record of leading Simba Bhora, Mwana Africa and Black Rhinos into the PSL

In other matches, last season’s runners up Tenax FC played out a goalless draw with Masvingo United, while Wangu Mazodze beat Midway three-nil.

The Southern Region kick-offs on the 20th of this month.
