Cyprianos makes Olympics bow

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

RISING swimmer, Denilson Cyprianos is happy with making a personal best time on his Olympics debut, despite not qualifying for the semi-finals in Paris, France this Wednesday.

The 21-year-old, who announced his arrival on the senior circuit, by bagging gold at the 2023 African Games, managed a personal best time on his Olympics.

Denilson Cyprianos touched the wall in 2mins 1 second and 91 microseconds, which was his best time but the effort was not good enough to take him to the semi-finals after missing out on a top-16 finish at the Paris La Defense Arena at the ongoing 2024 Paris Games.

The youngster was content with his efforts.

“I am happy with the effort, this is a difficult event but I am proud to have made a personal best time although I would have loved to be under 2 minutes, we learn as we go and we take each lesson in life,” he said.

Meanwhile, the track and field competitions start this Thursday in Paris, but Zimbabwean athletes will only be back in competitions on Thursday.
