THE visiting Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa has been charmed by the First Family’s agriculture enterprise at Precabe farm in Kwekwe.

The visiting Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa, who was in the company of his counterpart Vice President Kembo Mohadi, this Friday visited Precabe farm where he witnessed the best farming practices being employed there.

At the 700-hectare maize field, Vice President Mesa was appraised on how the farm is anticipating an average yield of 10 tonnes per hectare.

He also got an insight on how employing the best farming techniques has resulted in an anticipated yield of four tonnes per hectare for the soya crop.

“We mainly practice crop rotation. This area where we put soya had wheat produce and we applied some fertiliser which is now being absorbed by the soya. The soya also produces nitrogen which will later be used when we plant cereals,” said Precabe Farm Manager, Mr Patrick Mnangagwa.

Vice President Mesa and his delegation also witnessed massive fisheries and animal husbandry projects and were impressed by the Ankole breed at the farm.

“It is a great experience that we have witnessed at this farm. We have indeed witnessed the massive development at this farm. The technology is just top-notch. We also witnessed the cattle from Uganda which shows us that you have some good relationships as African countries. We have indeed learnt a lot from how they practice farming to achieve maximum yields per hectare,” he said.

Vice President Mesa’s three-day high-level visit to Zimbabwe aims to cement existing bilateral ties between the two countries and explore new areas of possible cooperation.
