CUBAN President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the historic bonds of friendship between Cuba and Zimbabwe in a congratulatory message to President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day commemorations.
On Saturday, April 18, Zimbabwe marks its 46th anniversary of Independence, with the main celebrations taking place at Maphisa Stadium in Matobo District, Matabeleland South province.
This historic event, held under the theme “Zim@46 – Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030,” marks a triumphant milestone in the Second Republic’s commitment to decentralisation.
“On the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Zimbabwe, I extend our warmest congratulations,” he said.
The Cuban leader recognised Zimbabwe’s defence of its sovereignty and the enduring cooperation between the two nations.
Cuba, he said, acknowledges “the firmness with which the African country has defended its national sovereignty” and values “the cooperative ties we have developed.”
In a related message, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla also extended congratulations to Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira.
“I extend my warmest congratulations and reaffirm our commitment to continue expanding our historic relations of cooperation and solidarity,” he said.
The messages come as Zimbabwe marks 46 years of Independence on April 18, 1980 and ahead of the anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, established on April 20, just two days after independence.
