Conclave seals deal for India-Africa ties

THE 19th India-Africa Business Conclave ended this Thursday in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in the strengthening of bilateral ties between India and the African continent.

The event, which brought together government officials, business leaders and investors from both regions, showcased the immense potential for collaboration and growth between India and Africa.

Key speakers highlighted the significant strides made in strengthening the India-Africa relationship

“India is committed to ensuring Africa’s food availability through the supply of essential commodities such as rice.  Our pharmaceutical companies are key in advancing Africa’s healthcare while our telemedicine services can support countries around the world, with Africa being a major partner,” said India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry secretary, Mr Sunil Barthwal, Commerce.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs Economic Relations secretary, Mr Dammu Ravi said, “Indian companies are pioneering value creation across various infrastructure projects in Africa, including roads, railways, and power projects, among others. We must encourage greater Public-Private Partnership (PPP) partnerships with effective planning and implementation for enhancing our collaborative efforts and for driving mutual growth.”

Vice President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga highlighted Zimbabwe’s openness to doing business with India and invited collaborations across various sectors.

“Zimbabwe is open to doing business with India, Africa and all like-minded countries. Zimbabwe is ready to absorb investments in agriculture, mining, manufacturing, health, energy, information communication technology, space technology, tourism, and infrastructure sectors. We offer lucrative incentives to all investors as well as excellent terms of trade as guided by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) regulations. Let me hasten to say that Zimbabwe is a peaceful nation, therefore, be rest assured that your investments will be safe,” he said.

Other African leaders who attended the conclave expressed keen interest in partnering with India.

 “India’s dedication to advancing innovation & entrepreneurship in The Gambia is truly inspiring. Your contribution towards the transformation of The Gambia includes energy, infrastructure, affordable housing, healthcare, tourism, and transportation among others. India stands out as a key partner in driving sustainable development across Africa,” said the Vice-President of the Republic of Gambia, Mr Muhammad B.S. Jallow.

Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Mr Jeremiah Kpan Koung said, “I invite India to discuss partnerships and invest in the agricultural industry in Liberia. We can partner, whether it is a public-private or a private-private partnership. Liberia is open for investments in areas of agriculture, tourism, mining and other sectors.”

The India-Africa Business Conclave continues to demonstrate its effectiveness in fostering economic cooperation and fortifying the relationship between India and Africa.

As the conclave wraps up, it sets the stage for a new era of collaboration and growth, with both regions poised to reap the benefits of their strengthened partnership.
