THE Zimbabwe Strongman Federation is celebrating a major achievement after one of its athletes, Chido Maenzanise, was crowned Africa’s Strongest Woman at the East-Rand Strongest Competition held in South Africa this Saturday.

In a sport that demands immense power and endurance, Maenzanise’s victory stands as a testament to her exceptional strength and determination, further cementing Zimbabwe’s growing presence in continental strength sports.

With 28 medals to her name, Maenzanise powered her way past some of the continent’s toughest competitors to be crowned Africa’s Strongest Woman.

“Honestly, I still cannot believe it. Standing there as Africa’s Strongest Woman felt like a dream. It just shows that with persistence, hard work and prayer, nothing is impossible. If I can conquer Africa, then I know I can also deliver on the world stage. I’m ready to push even harder and make Zimbabwe proud,” she said.

Her victory has secured her a place at the World’s Strongest Competition in the United States, where she will represent Zimbabwe on the global stage alongside fellow strongmen and women.

Among those joining her is Trevor Chingosho, a former rugby player who switched codes to test his limits in strength sport, a move that is paying off as he continues to make waves in regional competitions.

“I have always loved power and competition, even when I played rugby, the gym was my favourite place. So moving into strongman felt natural for me. For me, it is all about pushing limits. Every day, trying to be stronger than yesterday. That is what keeps me going,” he said.

Under the leadership of Knowledge Musengi, the Zimbabwe Strongman Federation has been running successful national contests and sending athletes to regional tournaments, including the recent event in Zambia, where Zimbabwe bagged silver and gold medals.

“We are very proud of our athletes who have put Zimbabwe on the map. But to compete at the global level, we need partners and sponsors to help with travel, accommodation, and logistics so our champions can represent the nation with pride,” he said.

From local gyms to the world stage, Zimbabwe’s strongest people are proving that dedication, discipline, and national pride can lift more than just weights, but also the spirit of an entire nation.
