Captain Raza impressed with rebuilding exercise

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

CHEVRONS Captain Sikander Raza believes the national cricket team’s rebuilding is on track, despite the T20 series defeat to India at Harare Sports Club.

Zimbabwe suffered a 4-1 humbling to India in the five-match T20 series.

The Chevrons won the first match of the series before the recently crowned World Champions flexed their muscles to win four matches on the trot.

Zimbabwe fielded a young squad as they have set sights on qualifying for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Despite the series defeat, Chevrons captain Sikander Raza believes they are on the right track.

“The score line doesn’t suggest how we played this series. We were outplayed in only one game. The other four have been very competitive but I feel when we get a snip of a chance we are not taking it and we continue to give opponents lifelines and I also believe that we haven’t fielded well. We need to polish up on that we used to be, a very good fielding side and we must take those catches and those chances when they come,” he said.

Zimbabwe are set to shift their attention to the one-off test match against Ireland slated for the end of this month in Belfast.
