Black Mambas aim to consolidate pole position

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

A battle of last season’s bridesmaids is on the cards in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One this weekend as Herentals Under 20 clash with Eagles at Motor Action Sports Club this Saturday.

Herentals developmental side was the runners-up in the Northern Region division one league last season while the Eagles were a close third.

The two teams have not been at their best this season as they are somewhat off the pace, with Herentals five points behind log leaders Black Mambas, while Eagles are a further nine points back.

Be that as it may, the two teams usually produce a spectacle when they meet and the same is expected this Saturday at Motor Action Sports Club when they clash in a Week 19 encounter.

Elsewhere, log leaders Black Mambas host Banket Mine at Morris Deport looking to consolidate the top spot.

Second-placed Harare City will be hoping to continue with their fine run and keep pace with the log leaders when they take on Concession United at Motor Action Sports Club with their match set to start at midday before Herentals and Eagles play at 3pm.

Ngoni Stadium in Norton is the venue as MWOS FC hosts a stubborn Chegutu Pirates side.

The Lloyd Mutasa-coached MWOS have struggled at home, having won just once at Ngoni Stadium since the veteran coach took over in Week Seven.

Veteran Coach Arthur Tutani is back in the trenches of Division One football as he takes his new side Shamva Mine to Chikangwe Stadium for a date with Karoi United.

Tutani has already led Mwana Africa, Black Rhinos and Simba Bhora to promotion into the Premier Soccer League and will be hoping to weave his magic once again.
