THE African Diamond Producers Association (ADPA) continues to make efforts towards creating a more prosperous and resilient diamond industry in Africa.

Diamond-producing nations on the content under the banner, African Diamond Producers Association, convened in Luanda, Angola this Thursday with a focus on sustainability of the continental diamond sector.

Zimbabwe as the outgoing chair of ADPA, through Mines and Mining Development Minister, Honourable Winston Chitando, rallied member states to strive for a more prosperous and resilient diamond industry on the continent.

“As the Republic of Zimbabwe, we are thankful for the opportunity to have chaired ADPA for the last two years. It has been an honour to lead our organisation as we move from the inter-management team to the appointment of the current executive directorate,” Minister Chitando said.

“The appointment of the executive directorate has enabled ADPA to come up with a strategic direction, which has seen the organisation contribute meaningfully to the current discourse in the mining sector. As we move forward, let us remain committed to the development of a sustainable diamond sector in Africa that will stand the test of time.”

Minister Chitando also noted the significant growth of the diamond sector, particularly following the removal of trade restrictions on the Central African Republic.

“Our diamond sector continues to grow and with the removal of the diamond trade restrictions on the Central African Republic, the sector is on a positive trajectory. In conclusion, I am confident that this new chapter not only enhances our efforts to build a prosperous diamond sector in Africa but serves as a lasting symbol of the strength and resilience of our region.”

ADPA’s strategic roadmap focuses on sustainable practices, transparency, and value addition to ensure that Africa’s diamonds benefit its people and economies.
