ZIMBABWE’S men’s volleyball team has made a strong start to its Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Games campaign after defeating Zambia 3-1 in their opening match in Gaborone, Botswana.
The Campus Arena hosted a tightly contested Zambezi derby, where Zimbabwe held their nerve to secure a 3-1 victory and put their campaign on a promising path.
The win places Zimbabwe in a strong position in the race for gold, with traditional regional powerhouse South Africa not participating in this year’s competition.
Zimbabwe will now face hosts Botswana, with victory set to secure the men’s volleyball gold medal.
Elsewhere, Zimbabwe’s men’s chess team secured gold, while the women’s team claimed silver.
The men’s football team also impressed, beating hosts Botswana 3-0 to continue their strong showing at the regional university games.
