THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is set for a major boost, with the return of several high-profile Zimbabwean stars expected to raise the standard of competition and intensify the title race.

The second half of the season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years as established internationals make their return to domestic football.

Warriors defender Gerald Takwara leads the latest wave of homecomings after signing for ambitious title contenders Hardrock. The centre-back joined the Kwekwe-based side following the expiry of his contract with Iraqi club Al-Minaa, ending a lengthy spell abroad after previously featuring for Ngezi Platinum.

Former Warriors goalkeeper Washington Arubi has also returned to the local league after completing a move to CAPS United. The 40-year-old joins Makepekepe following his departure from South African Premiership side Marumo Gallants, marking his first appearance in the domestic top flight since leaving Dynamos in 2012.

CAPS United have further strengthened their goalkeeping department with the acquisition of Botswana international Victor James, who was previously with Jwaneng FC.

Warriors right-back Emmanuel Jalai has also returned to Zimbabwean football, joining league newcomers Scottland on loan from South African side Durban City. The former Dynamos captain will spend the remainder of the season with the PSL outfit before returning to Durban City in January 2027.

The returning trio joins established stars Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat, whose presence has already added quality and glamour to the league.

Foreign players, including Kwake Twala and Moses Shidolo of Scottland, Frank Agymayng of Dynamos, and Hardrock’s Neliswa Dhlamini, have also raised the competitive standard of the league, with increased fan attendance reflecting growing excitement.

With more high-profile names, including Warriors forward Prince Dube and former Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile, reportedly attracting interest from local clubs, anticipation is building for an action-packed second half of the season.
