BULAWAYO Chiefs are targeting a strong second half of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season as they seek to secure their top-flight status following promotion this year.
After returning to the Premier Soccer League from Division One, Amakhosi Amahle are determined to establish themselves among the country’s elite.
Chiefs currently sit five points above the relegation zone but have struggled for consistency, managing just one win in their last five league matches.
A difficult spell towards the end of the first half of the campaign also saw the side go a month without scoring, while defensive lapses proved costly.
Head coach John Nyikadzino believes the team has adapted to the demands of top-flight football and is confident of avoiding relegation.
“The first half of the season was not easy. As a newly promoted side, it was about adjusting to the Premier League because there are no easy matches,” he said.
“One of our biggest challenges was conceding too many goals, but we have worked on that and hope to collect enough points to stay clear of relegation.”
Chiefs will look to return to winning ways when they host MWOS at Luveve Stadium on Saturday, where they remain unbeaten this season.
