Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to climate action and inclusive growth at the inaugural Blue on Green Sustainability Forum held in Harare this Friday.

The forum, held under the theme “Shaping Africa’s Sustainable Future,” outlined strategies to tackle climate risks, drive the energy transition, and strengthen food and water security.

Stanbic Bank Chief Executive Mr Solomon Nyanhongo said the bank’s sustainability model is centred on uplifting communities while driving key economic sectors.

“Zimbabwe is our home; we drive her growth. Our approach ensures communities, especially marginalised groups, are financially included and empowered as the economy progresses,” he said.

He added that the bank is investing heavily in infrastructure development, green energy, and agriculture while prioritising environmental protection.

“We are decarbonising the economy and investing in climate-proofing to reduce emissions and mitigate climate risk,” said Nyanhongo.

Standard Bank Group Head of Sustainability Ms Boitumelo Sethlatswe emphasised Africa’s responsibility to lead its own sustainable development.

“The severity of climate hazards makes it clear we must scale up resilience and adaptation. Mobilising private capital is now essential,” she said.

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Deputy Governor Dr Jesimen Chipika urged Stanbic to scale up its impact.

“We want to see real, measurable benefits. Planting three trees is not enough. Show us hectares. It’s time for big impact, not symbolic gestures,” she noted.

Discussions focused on unlocking investments in renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, resilient water infrastructure, and green property development.

The forum also saw the launch of Stanbic Bank’s 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting progress in climate policy, green investments, and capacity building through sustainability champions across departments.
