Chiredzi schools’ infrastructure construction to boost pupil capacity

Story by Gay Matambo

THE Government is implementing close to 40 education infrastructure projects in Chiredzi District, targeted at enhancing the quality of education as the country seeks to modernise educational facilities.

Demand for modern, safe, and technologically advanced educational spaces is increasing and construction of infrastructure, including classroom blocks, computer laboratories, and resource centres is continuing.
Chiredzi Government Primary School has become the first beneficiary of the schools infrastructure development programme after the completion of a modern double-story classroom block.

“The building has come at the right time when we were experiencing congestion challenges. This new classroom block is now housing all grade 6 and seven students. The availability of modern learning spaces is key, especially when we expect our students to produce results. The construction of a hall at the infant section is also underway, and all these projects will definitely enhance the quality of education at this school,” said Chiredzi Government High School Headmaster, Mr Super Saiti.

Chiredzi District Schools Inspector, Mr Micho Hove, gave an overview of other education infrastructure projects underway in the district.
“We have several infrastructure development projects which are in motion in Chiredzi that include classroom blocks, toilets, and ICT laboratories. Here in Chiredzi, a new school is being built, and it’s called Melbourne Park Government Primary School. We expect to start enrolling next year, and the government has pledged to support this project all the way. We are also pleased to announce that we recently completed the construction of the BSPZ resource centre, and as education officials, we do not have any challenges with workspace anymore. We were renting offices in town, but we are happy that Phase A of the project is complete, and we are now moving on to Phase B, which will include the construction of a hall and other offices,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the government has accelerated efforts to transform the country’s education sector, with over 500 new schools constructed across the country in the past three years, a move that aligns with the Second Republic’s commitment to inclusivity and sustainable development in line with Vision 2030.
