BINDURA – LIBERATION war hero, Cde Felix Chinhoro, who was buried at Mashonaland Central Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Bindura, has been described as a man who was committed to the liberation and development of the nation.
Mourners from all walks of life converged at Bindura Provincial Heroes’ Acre this Monday to bid farewell to liberation war hero, Cde Felix Chinhoro.
The sombre ceremony saw an outpouring of grief and gratitude from family, friends and veterans of the liberation struggle.
“We feel sad over his passing. He was a pillar and more than a father, he was a friend. We feel a huge gap in our midst. He would unite the family, and he was a humble soul,” a family member said.
“He had many nicknames in the struggle. I respected him because he was peaceful. When we got into training, we put him in the group of 400, and that is how he was deployed to Gaza. He was then selected from a group of 44. He was trained to handle bazookas,” a war vet said
“Chinhoro was a person who cared about others, we would discuss about life and farming, we encouraged each other, but he had ill health,” a community member said.
Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo, gave a moving tribute to the late liberation war hero.
“We are gathered here with heavy hearts, but we are grateful for the life well lived. A Freedom fighter, a patriot and a humble, dedicated servant of Zimbabwe. His life was a living testimony of commitment to the liberation, development and empowerment of his people and his nation,” he said.
Cde Chinhoro, whose name was Cde Gwejegweje, was born on April 20 in 1955, in Mudzi and joined the liberation struggle in 1976 when he crossed into Mozambique.
He received training at Takawira base 2 in Mozambique and was deployed to the war front in Gaza province.
After independence, Cde Chinhoro worked at PG Industries, and between 2000 and 2009, he served as the ZANU PF Secretary for Lands in Bindura.
