WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA – ZIMBABWE’S ZDF Queens secured a silver medal at the Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Associations (COSANA) Club Championships after a closely contested 47–44 defeat to Eswatini’s Royal Flames in the final played on Monday.
The Premier Netball League (PNL) defending champions fell behind early in the match, trailing from the first quarter.
However, a spirited comeback saw the Zimbabwean side take a brief one-point lead in the final quarter.
The contest remained tense until the last two minutes, when ZDF Queens surrendered their lead and ultimately fell short by just three points.
Despite the loss, the Queens returned home with silver medals and a cash prize of N$8 000.
Adding to the team’s accolades, Kelly Muyambo, one of the squad’s most experienced players, was named Best Player of the Tournament, a testament to her consistency and leadership on the court.
Zimbabwe was represented by two teams at the regional tournament, with Makate High Flyers also participating.
However, the High Flyers were unable to advance beyond the group stages, having lost all their fixtures.
The COSANA Club Championships, held in Windhoek, brought together top club teams from across the Southern African region, serving as a key platform for competition and exposure for netball players in the region.
