SADC Chairperson, President Emmerson Mnangagwa held a closed-door meeting with Afreximbank President, Professor Benedict Orama at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 29) in Baku.
The financial institution is constructing its regional headquarters for Southern Africa in Harare.
President Mnangagwa said the two discussed various projects being pursued in collaboration with the bank.
“The meeting with Professor Orama relates to the various projects in Harare in which we are interrogating the pace of development in Harare and I have assured them that I will look into it and as government, we are going to provide adequate land that they are seeking for in Binga,” he said.
Professor Orama said the Afreximbank Africa Trade Centre and Regional Office project in Harare is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year.
He said, “I thanked him for the strong support of the bank. We explained to him what is in the pipeline. The Afreximbank Africa Trade Centre headquarters will be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2025.”
Meanwhile, earlier on President Mnangagwa attended an African Development Bank (ADB) meeting on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference.
