THE Zimbabwe netball team, the Gems, has left for Glasgow, Scotland, this Wednesday, ready to showcase their skills at inaugural Celtic Cup.
Coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki has carefully selected a 15-member squad, blending seasoned players with fresh talent, for the prestigious four-nation tournament.
After an intense five-week training camp, the Gems are primed to face stiff competition from European powerhouses Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
The Celtic Cup, running from the 7th to the 11th of next month, at the Emirates Arena, serves as a crucial stepping stone for the Gems’ 2027 World Cup preparations in Australia.
“We’re eager to test our skills against top European teams and gain valuable experience,” The Celtic Cup is an ideal platform to fine-tune our strategy and teamwork,” said Simbarashe Mlambo, Gems assistant coach.
The round-robin format will see the Gems play each opponent from Thursday to Saturday, with the finals scheduled for the 10th of November.
Created by Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, the Celtic Cup aims to provide a world-class competitive tournament outside the World Cup and Commonwealth Games.
