ZIMBABWE’S telecommunications sector has maintained growth in the first three months of this year driven by exchange rate stability, more subscribers and increased use of data by industry and commerce.
Data released at the 2025 Annual Telecommunications Conference indicate a resilient sector that sustained operations and viability due to stable costs.
It shows that internet or data usage continue to be the main driver of revenues for the sector.
The government and telecommunications sector players are happy with the development and continued expansion efforts.
“The sector is focusing on modalities to boost viability and consolidate gains, in fact, this is achievable taking into account commitment by the sector in tapping viable investment opportunities. Going forward, the sector is also exploring the possibilities of further refining the infrastructure sharing thrust as a key component to minimise costs,” Telco Broadband Managing Director, Ms Dumisani Nomagugu Nkala said.
“The Government of Zimbabwe continues to engage the industry with the key thrust being on creating that avenue to unlock value for the benefit of the investors, currently, focus is on talking growth and the stable environment further provides a favourable impetus for the sector to reap viable returns that are vital in stimulating further growth,” the Deputy Minister of ICT, Courier and Postal Services, Dr Dingumuzi Phuti said.
As Zimbabwe continues to adopt information communication technologies, the telecommunications sector is poised to emerge as one of the biggest beneficiaries.
