Zimbabwe’s successful implementation of the Agriculture Mechanisation Programme has attracted regional interest with a Nigerian delegation touring the Bison Agro-Machinery Workshop in Harare to appreciate how the multi-million-dollar facility is boosting productivity and food security.

The high powered delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture and food security Senator Abubakar Kyari was taken around the Bison Agro-Machinery display of tractors and various farming implements.

The delegation was also taken to a workshop which provides spares and training for servicing the fleet of tractors and equipment made possible through Zimbabwe’s partnership with Belarus.

Belarus Ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency General Ihar Marshalau summed up the success achieved since launch of multi-million dollar Zimbabwe – Belarus mechanisation deal.

“We have so far delivered over 2000 agric- machinery units to Zimbabwe. We are happy that Zimbabwe has boosted wheat production since then. We are prepared to implement the same mechanisation programme in Nigeria, we welcome their visit and hope to work together,” said Ambassador Gen Ihar.

Nigerian head of delegation Senator Abubakar Kyari says their visit has been an eye opener.

“We are here because my President has send me to see what his counterpart President Emmerson Mnangagwa is doing. We visited one of the farms where Belarus mechanisation is implemented. We are a big nation and to ensure food security, we need to follow the giant step Zimbabwe has taken with Belarus,” said Minister Abubakar Kyari.

The Launch of Zim-Belarus Mechanisation Facility has so far empowered thousands of farmers with the best equipment that has enabled them to boost food security at national level.
