THE Seventh-day Adventist Church’s non-profit organisation, Bridging Gaps Foundation, has extended humanitarian support worth US$500 000 to flood-hit families in Manica Province, Mozambique, following the devastation caused by Cyclone Gezani earlier this year.
Mozambique experienced a humanitarian crisis in January and February after torrential rains triggered by Tropical Cyclones Fytia and Gezani caused widespread destruction in several provinces.
According to the United Nations Humanitarian Organisations, more than 700 000 people were affected, while over 200 000 were displaced, prompting international appeals for humanitarian assistance.
Bridging Gaps Foundation has become one of the latest regional organisations to respond after donating aid under the Impact Mozambique Campaign, an initiative that brought together church leaders, government officials, humanitarian organisations and development partners to support vulnerable communities across Mozambique.
Founder of Bridging Gaps Foundation, Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei, said the organisation remains committed to uplifting communities through practical humanitarian interventions.
“Our work is structured around several key thematic areas, including health and wellness, water, sanitation and hygiene, disaster risk reduction and social protection, agriculture, food and nutrition security, education and evangelism, specifically support for the Seventh-day Adventist Mission. We firmly believe in empowering individuals with a message of hope and supporting communities through tangible acts of service. Our partnership with the Seventh-day Adventist Church holds a very special place in our hearts,” he said.
Manica Town officials and FRELIMO representatives were delighted by the gesture, commending the brotherhood that exists between the two countries.
“This initiative demonstrates the power of unity and service. We appreciate all partners who have come to support the people of Manica, not only spiritually but socially and economically as well. Such programmes bring development, hope, and peace to our communities,” Manica Town Mayor Mr Jilane Abdul Constantino Armando said.
“Jesus ministered to people in their totality, physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. Impact Mozambique seeks to follow that same example by restoring hope and transforming lives through service,” FRELIMO representative, Mr Filipe Oliva Gimo said.
