ZIMBABWE’S boom in the tobacco sector has been recognised with the country set to host the World Tobacco Africa Conference in May this year.
Milestones achieved by the tobacco industry have charmed global economies that are interested in learning more from the country.
Zimbabwe Farmers Union Operations Director Mr Prince Kuipa confirmed that hosting the conference is a show of confidence in destination Zimbabwe.
“It is a reflection of how global economies yearn to learn and understand more about the overall value chains. The fact that the conference will be held during the course of the selling season will also provide an opportunity for delegates to assess the current production trends, challenges and workable solutions, taking into account strides that have been achieved in boosting the participation of small-scale growers.”
In a related development, players in the tobacco industry are already crafting a roadmap for the inaugural conference.
Tobacco sector value chains are considered by monetary authorities as key pillars for growth as they generate foreign currency.
