Hundreds of people are gathered at Murehwa Centre for the SADC Malaria Day regional commemoration and launch of Zimbabwe’s “Zero Malaria Starts with Me” campaign, themed “Resilient health systems and communities key to malaria elimination”.

The significant event aims to accelerate progress toward malaria elimination through community engagement, improved health systems, and equitable access to malaria prevention and treatment services.

Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga is the Guest of Honour, underscoring the government’s commitment to eliminating malaria, which remains a significant public health concern in Zimbabwe, accounting for about 40% of outpatient attendances in moderate to high transmission districts.

The campaign is part of a broader initiative to address the disproportionate burden of malaria in the African region, where 94% of global cases and 95% of deaths occur.

The “Zero Malaria Starts with Me” campaign has already been launched in 23 countries.
