Zimbabwe clinch ZDF Day trophy with 2–0 win over Zambia

THE Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) select side has lifted the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day trophy after beating Zambia Defence Forces select two-nil at Rufaro Stadium this Tuesday.

Ambience makes a football match, the crowds turned up in their numbers, and with their voices anticipating a beautiful football match, the players did not disappoint.

Zimbabwe, playing in front of their crowd, were eager to retain pride, and they started the match on the front foot.

It was no surprise when Saisan Mudimba lobbed the ball over the Zambian goalkeeper into the back of the net in the 11th minute.

The hosts threatened to overrun their visitors, but they slowed down, perhaps preserving dignity for their neighbours.

The second half started pretty much the same way as the first stanza, and Nigel Hunga killed the match as a contest with another beautiful goal.

“I am happy with the performance. I was assisted by the fact that I knew some of the players, so selecting the team was not difficult,” ZDF Select coach, Waddington Chinyangan’a said.

“Tough day in the office, but we held our own and were unlucky not to score,” Zambia Defence Forces Select coach, Dennis Banda noted.

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces select team pocketed US$20 000 for the victory, while the visitors walked away with US$15 000.
