HIGHLANDERS coach Benjani Mwaruwari has delivered one of the defining moments of his coaching career after guiding Bosso to a victory that halted Scottland’s nine-match winning streak and preserved one of the club’s most cherished records.
The 1-0 win at Barbourfields Stadium not only ended the defending champions’ remarkable run but also denied the league leaders the chance to equal Highlanders’ historic 10-match winning streak, achieved during the club’s 2006 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title-winning campaign.
Records are often made to be broken, but Highlanders ensured theirs remains untouched.
The victory represented another milestone in Bosso’s remarkable turnaround under Mwaruwari.
Highlanders endured a difficult start to the season, drawing seven of their opening 10 league matches and collecting just 11 points, raising doubts over whether the former Warriors captain could restore the club’s fortunes.
Since then, Bosso have responded impressively, collecting 21 points from their next 10 league matches to revive their campaign.
They now sit sixth on the table with 37 points, having lost only twice all season.
Sunday’s victory, however, carried significance beyond the league standings.
Scottland arrived in Bulawayo as the division’s form team, having won nine consecutive league matches, kept nine straight clean sheets and scored 23 goals without conceding.
A victory would have seen them equal Highlanders’ long-standing club record.
Instead, they came up against a disciplined and resilient Bosso side determined to defend its legacy.
Highlanders became the first team in 10 league matches to score against Scottland and the first to end their winning streak.
For Mwaruwari, the result was about more than three points. It was a statement that Highlanders remain a force capable of rising to the biggest occasions.
The league title may have eluded Bosso since 2006, but Sunday’s performance ensured one of the club’s proudest achievements remains exclusively theirs.
