ZIMBABWE’S top referee Brighton Chimene has been appointed as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Chimene’s appointment comes after he served in the same role at last year’s men’s Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting CAF’s continued confidence in the Zimbabwean official.

The Zimbabwe Football Association hailed the appointment as recognition of Chimene’s professionalism and a reflection of the growing stature of Zimbabwean refereeing on the continent.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on Saturday and runs until August 16 next in Morocco.
