GOVERNMENT has commended Solusi University for expanding access to higher education by taking university programmes directly into communities, describing the initiative as a key contribution to national development and community empowerment.
Speaking at the Solusi University Faculty of Theology and Chaplaincy Short Courses Graduation Ceremony held at Lakeview Primary School in Kariba on Friday, Guest of Honour, Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Ambassador Frederick Shava, said collaboration between universities, churches, government institutions, the private sector, development partners and local communities can help extend similar programmes to more districts across Zimbabwe, making quality education accessible to every citizen.
Ambassador Shava said the Solusi University initiative demonstrates the critical role institutions of higher learning play in national development by making education accessible, relevant and responsive to the needs of communities.
In addition, the Minister paid tribute to Pastor Ketani and the Kariba District team for hosting the programme, along with lecturers, sponsors and partners who supported the Winter School.
North Zimbabwe Conference president, Trustmore Parangeta, and the coordinator of short-term courses, Dr Oswell Dzvairo, were also honoured.
A total of 45 graduates were awarded certificates during the ceremony, with 13 of them graduating with certificates in Pastoral Ministry and Community Chaplaincy Level One, while 32 received certificates in Professional Ethics, Leadership and Administration Level One.
