Woodlands Horticulture projects on track

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

THE Second Republic’s Horticulture Recovery and Growth Plan is on track, with farmers at Woodlands Farm near Victoria Falls boasting of thriving horticulture projects.

In a heartwarming story of resilience and triumph, farmers in Woodlands Farm, located near the majestic Victoria Falls, are turning adversity into opportunity.

Once barren lands are now blossoming into a vibrant tapestry of green, thanks to thriving horticulture projects that are not only feeding families but also honouring the legacy of Zimbabwe’s fallen heroes.

The ZBC news crew toured some parts of the farm in Hwange District this Thursday and met farmers who are optimistic about the future and grateful to those who sacrificed their lives for them to be on the land.

“We are producing various horticulture produce here in Woodlands and selling our produce to Victoria Falls,” said one of the farmers.
Another added, “We thank those who sacrificed their lives for us to be on this land. We are producing, and with more support, we can do more. There is potential on this land.”

“From these farms, we are surviving pretty well. We are eating, and we are sending our children to school,” another farmer noted.

ZANU PF Hwange District Coordinating chairperson, Cde Mathew Muleya, confirmed the transformative nature of the projects being undertaken at the arm.

“We are thankful for the opportunity we got to be here and are utilising the land to our best ability. We are producing and supplying Victoria Falls and hope to multiply our efforts. As we celebrate our heroes in August, we need to remember that there are comrades who sacrificed their lives for us to be here producing, and we are thankful to them. Our hope is to be able to supply the whole of Victoria Falls and Hwange with horticulture produce and even feed the province,” he said.

The horticulture sector is targeted to contribute 20 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product by 2025, in line with the vision to attain an upper-middle-income society by 2030.
