Two male learners from Masasi High School in Marange, Manicaland Province, yesterday appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of gang-raping a 17-year-old schoolmate, in a case that has sparked widespread outrage.
The pair, both aged 16, allegedly committed the offence which was captured in a disturbing video that circulated on social media, drawing condemnation.
Prosecutors successfully opposed bail, arguing that the seriousness of the offence, coupled with the public outcry, warranted the continued detention of the accused. The court remanded the case to October 14 for further proceedings.
