The Redcliff community and surrounding areas are benefiting from the operationalisation of Torwood Hospital which opened its doors to the public in 2022 at the height of COVID-19 pandemic.
The community is grateful to the Second Republic for its inclusive development approach which saw the facility re-open after years of being idle.
“We used to travel to Kwekwe General for treatment, but now, this hospital is closer, there is now a stationed doctor to assist us. We want thank our President for remembering the Redcliff community,” said a community member.
“Some of us have chronic diseases which require constant medical attention. The reopening of the hospital has helped us to get the best medical attention nearby,” said another.
Government is equally excited by the reopening of the medical facility after some major refurbishments through the use of devolution funds.
“For now we are operating OPD department, and we are seeing almost 300 patients per month. Currently we are only doing out patient management, diagnosis of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Because of this facility, we are giving services that the community will benefit from. We want to thank the government’s commitment to make this facility functional,” said Torwood Hospital resident doctor, Dr Stanley Mukono.
Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube weighed in, “I feel duty bound, as I tour Torwood Hospital, to monitor progress on the refurbishment, in line with the Second Republic’s agenda of promoting and accessing health care services to our communities.

“The new dispensation under the able leadership of His Excellency, Cde Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has taken strategic measures to transform and provide quality healthy for all. Pursuant to this transformative agenda, the Second Republic is seized with reforms in health delivery, by implementing and grading existing clinics and building new ones in a bid to upgrade health delivery system.
“This hospital was bought by devolution funds availed by the Second Republic. Our journey to bring Torwood Hospital back to its operations has been a collective effort with various stakeholders, to provide much needed services to the residents which will ease the workload on Kwekwe General Hospital.”
The Second Republic has made significant strides in improving health care services, with several clinics and hospitals being constructed while existing ones have been refurbished through the use of devolution funds.
