ZIMBABWEAN mixed martial arts star Themba “The Answer” Gorimbo once again demonstrated his trademark resilience and warrior spirit, despite falling to a unanimous decision loss against American fighter Jeremiah Wells at UFC Vegas 110 in the early hours of today.
Both athletes entered the welterweight clash eager to climb the ranks in one of the UFC’s most competitive divisions.
For Gorimbo, the fight was a chance to bounce back after a tough loss to Vicente Luque earlier this year and reaffirm his growing reputation as one of Africa’s brightest MMA exports.
In the opening round, Gorimbo made an explosive start, dominating the grappling exchanges and twice taking Wells to the mat.
The Zimbabwean star controlled large portions of the round, using his wrestling and top pressure to keep Wells on the defensive.
Wells, however, fought back in the later rounds, capitalising on fatigue and using his strength to control the action on the ground.
Despite Gorimbo’s relentless attempts to reverse position and defend submissions, the judges ultimately awarded the bout to Wells with identical 29-28 scorecards.
Though the result didn’t go his way, Gorimbo once again won hearts with his determination and fighting spirit traits that have made him a fan favourite both in Zimbabwe and across the MMA world.
The defeat takes Gorimbo’s professional record to 14 wins and 6 losses, but his hunger for victory remains undimmed.
With his trademark grit and humility, Gorimbo promised to return stronger, continuing to fly the Zimbabwean flag high on the global MMA stage.
