Support grows for Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill as campaign reaches Goromonzi

THE ruling ZANU-PF party has taken its Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill awareness campaign to Goromonzi as the revolutionary movement rallies support for the proposed constitutional changes.

Residents of Goromonzi believe President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa must be allowed to see through his developmental strategy, tied to Vision 2030.

“As residents of Goromonzi South, we are supporting Amendment number 3. We are going to be given title deeds as well as witnessing accelerated economic development.”

“Our President constructed the Trabablas Interchange, and the Harare-Mazowe Road is being rehabilitated, and it is something we would want to continue. Regular elections retards national development so we want to see continued development,” another resident added.

ZANU-PF Mashonaland East Provincial Chairperson Cde Daniel Garwe, who addressed the awareness campaigns in Goromonzi this Wednesday, noted that extending the Presidential and Parliamentary election cycles to seven years is critical to ensure fulfilment of Vision 2030.

“Caledonia is on State land and residents will be issued with title deeds in line with Vision 2030. For Caledonia to be regularised, its residents must unite with the rest of the country in supporting Constitutional Amendment Number 3. This will ensure resources are channelled towards development and regularisation efforts rather than elections,” he said.

Cde Garwe added that the Bill is an Executive proposal awaiting public input during the upcoming hearings.

“We urge citizens to support the President. Constitutional Amendment Number 3 is aligned with national aspirations. Systems where the President is elected through Parliament are not new, as they are used in countries such as the United States and Britain, as well as in several Commonwealth nations,” he said.

Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Itayi Ndudzo highlighted that the bill conforms to the dictates of the constitution and principles of sovereignty.

“All the countries in the world have the right to develop and implement their development master plans in line with their national constitutions. Every national constitution is made by the citizens of that country. The Constitutional Amendment Number 3 is an executive bill from our government. The government is under the ruling party.”

Public hearings on the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill will be held from March 30 to April 2 across the country.
