ZRP National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and implored the public to respect human sanctity.
“We have a sad incident that occurred in Shamva where a 35-year-old woman Sinalence Kufandirori beat her 9-year-old daughter to death accusing her of using cooking oil and mealie meal to play Mahumbwe on the 3rd of this month at Maxton Farm. This is so sad so as the Police we want to implore the public to respect the sacredness of human life,” he said.
Legislators have also raised alarm over the increase in murder cases countrywide calling for stiffer penalties on perpetrators.
“We are going to approach it on two fronts. One we are going to lobby for deterrent penalties to those who may be found violating the law. Stiffer penalties will deter would-be offenders to think twice and this will help in saving lives. Secondly, there is a need to educate people about that issue so we are going to increase awareness countrywide,” said the chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Honorable Energy Mutodi.
Legislator, Honorable Ngonidzashe Mudekunye said, “What I have observed is that murder cases are on the increase because every day we hear such cases. So, what we are proposing as Legislators is that there is a need for stiffer penalties on those found on the wrong side of the law.”
Murder cases involving children are now on the increase.
Last week, a 6-year-old child from Chief Dandawa Magunje was raped and stoned to death.
