A 41-year-old Epworth man has appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of unlawful entry under aggravating circumstances after allegedly stealing cash and valuables worth more than US$56 000.
Itai Kaizi appeared in court on Wednesday in connection with a house break-in that occurred in Harare on April 1.
The State alleges that the complainant secured her house at around 2200 hours before retiring to bed.
The following morning, she discovered that the front door had been forced open.
A subsequent inspection revealed that US$52 000 in cash and two cell phones were missing from the house.
The total value of the stolen cash and property is estimated at more than US$56 000.
Police investigations led to Kaizi’s arrest and the recovery of one of the stolen cell phones, which was positively identified by the complainant.
Kaizi was remanded in custody and is expected to return to court on June 5 for a bail application.
