MUSIC, dance, and cultural expression will take centre stage at this year’s Independence celebrations, with a major musical gala scheduled to conclude the commemorations in Maphisa, Matabeleland South Province, next month.

The all-night music gala, one of the key highlights of the national festivities, is expected to attract thousands of revellers who will gather to celebrate Zimbabwe’s rich artistic and cultural heritage through vibrant performances and entertainment.

Held annually on Independence Day, the gala has become a major platform that promotes unity and patriotism, while also celebrating Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage through music, dance and traditional performances.

This year’s edition will feature a diverse line-up of artists from across the country, with a strong representation from Bulawayo and Matabeleland provinces.

Some of the artists expected to ignite the stage include Sandra Ndebele, Insimbi ZeZhwane, Clement Magwaza, Mathias Mhere, Jeys Marabini, Bolamba Culture Birds, and Zinja Ziyamuluma Molisi.

Other headline musical acts include Chase Skuza, Derek Mpofu, Ndolwane Super Sounds, Ndux Malax and Black Diva, Sulumani Chimbetu, and Andy Muridzo.

Traditional and cultural performances will feature Zondamthakathi Traditional Dance Group, Ufasimba Group, Bhadilla Indosakusa the Morning Star, and Bolamba Culture Birds.

Choral and ensemble performances are expected from Black Umfolosi, IYASA, Mavusani Mbare Chimurenga Choir, and the Chimurenga Vocalists, Godolude and Friendly Brothers and Dubia Masters.

The show will run throughout the night in Maphisa, after the main Independence Day celebrations as Zimbabweans continue commemorating the nation’s liberation and cultural identity.

Zimbabwe marks 46 years of Independence on April 18, and this year’s theme is: Zim@46-Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030.
