SOUTHERN African Development Community (SADC) senior officials responsible for transport have adopted a number of resolutions targeted at enhancing the aviation sector in line with the SADC Safety Aviation Organisation (SASO).
Critical discussions setting the tone for the roundtable meeting of SADC Cluster Ministers Responsible for Transport, ICT, Information, and Meteorology, senior officials from within the regional bloc convened for the second day in Harare this Tuesday, focusing on one of the critical agendas for the transport sector.
The officials agreed on a number of frameworks and policies that they will submit to the responsible ministers for approval.
The meeting of the senior officials is a precursor to the roundtable meeting of Ministers Responsible for Transport, ICT, Information and Meteorology scheduled for this Friday.
According to a statement by the SADC executive, the agenda of the meeting will focus on reviewing policy and regulatory frameworks and the implementation status of programmes within the Transport, ICT, Information, and Meteorology sectors.
The Ministers will review the implementation of decisions and progress achieved since the last sectorial meeting held in June 2023, as well as the implementation of the decisions from the SADC Summit of Heads of State and the SADC Council of Ministers.
The SADC Secretariat also notes the meeting will receive progress reports on programmes and activities aligned with the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2020-2030) and the Short-Term Action Plan (STAP) II of the SADC Regional Infrastructure Development Master Plan (RIDMP 2012-2027).
