THE devolution programme is transforming communities, with the people of Gutu being the latest to benefit after the commissioning of an SMEs marketplace and road equipment.
The people of Gutu are excited about the prospects that lie ahead after the construction of a town market and procurement of road equipment and service vehicles worth US$235 000 under the devolution programme.
“We are excited that our council through support from the government have managed to establish this market for us. There is a big shade, toilets and clean water to ensure a safe working environment for us,” said a Gutu resident.
The government reiterated that the devolution programme is meant to transform rural livelihoods, hence the need for local authorities to use the funds effectively.
Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honorable Ezra Chadzamira said, “The Second Republic came up with the devolution idea to improve our rural communities. Again, a call to action blueprint was launched for local authorities to improve service delivery. We want you to utilise those devolution funds to improve our communities.”
“Vision 2030 can only be achieved if our local authorities continue to support rural transformation and today, we are witnessing the fruits of President Mnangagwa’s vision. With this equipment, we are guaranteed of good roads and improved business and many of our people will be able to access services,” added Gutu Central legislator who is also the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Honorable Winston Chitando.
The programme has also transformed Gutu district through infrastructure development.
Gutu Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Alexander Mutembwa said, “We are proud beneficiaries of the devolution programme and from the money we received, we managed to establish six healthcare facilities, purchase road equipment and establish a safe market for our women among many projects.”
The devolution programme is credited for inclusive development countrywide through the construction of schools, clinics, roads, bridges and the sinking of boreholes.
