Rains claim two lives in Matabeleland North

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

INCESSANT rains affecting much of Zimbabwe have resulted in the loss of two lives in Matabeleland North Province.

Police have confirmed the deaths of 29-year-old Mayibongwe Nkala from Chief Magama’s area in Tsholotsho District, who drowned in the Gwayi River, and a one-year-old baby from Chief Mabhikwa’s area in Lupane District, who lost her life when the hut she shared with her mother collapsed due to the heavy rains.

Since the start of the current rainy season last year, over 40 lives have been lost due to drowning and other rain-related incidents.

Authorities are urging people living in flood-prone areas to take necessary precautions and pay attention to weather warnings.
