Presidential Goat Pass-On scheme a game changer for Shurugwi women

MORE than 100 young women from various villages in the Shurugwi district have benefited from the life-changing Presidential Goat Pass-On scheme being implemented by the Young Women for Economic Development in the Midlands Province.

The programme, which was held at Vungwi Primary School, is aimed at uplifting rural livelihoods by providing a sustainable source of income and food security through goat farming.

“This is a good initiative for us young women because we have been lagging behind in terms of self-sustenance and development. We want to thank our President and our mother Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa for giving us these goats.

“We were witnessing these projects being done in other provinces, and today, we are happy to be given goats to start our goats project.

“We are happy with this programme being spearheaded by our President. I am going to grow this project and earn a living from it,” beneficiaries from the programme said.

Young Women for Economic Development Midlands Provincial Chairperson, Mrs Dorcus Masango, underscored the importance of the programme in transforming lives.

“This programme was launched, and we decided to carry on with it. The President is saying no one should be left behind. We are encouraged by the support and thank him. We will help to mobilise more resources to ensure more young women benefit,” she said.

The programme is part of a broader strategy to accelerate rural development and achieve an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
