MSME’s service directory launched

Story by Yolanda Moyo

THE newly-launched Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector service directory is set to revolutionise entrepreneurs’ access to essential services, addressing a long-standing information gap in the sector.

MSMEs, which form the backbone of Zimbabwe’s economy, have faced numerous challenges, including limited access to finance, markets and technical assistance.

The lack of a centralised repository of information has exacerbated these challenges, making it difficult for entrepreneurs to find resources they need to succeed.

This is, however, set to be a thing of the past as the MSMEs service directory recently launched by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises seeks to provide a one-stop-shop for entrepreneurs.

“This directory is a game-changer for MSMEs in Zimbabwe. By providing MSMEs with a comprehensive directory, we are empowering them to make informed decisions and take their businesses to the next level. For too long, MSMEs have struggled to find reliable and affordable services. This directory provides a much-needed solution, empowering entrepreneurs to make informed decisions and access the resources they require to succeed,” said SME’s advisory council member, Mr Dumisani Ncube.

Bulawayo Chamber of SMEs programmes coordinator, Mr Nketa Dlamini noted, “The directory has been invaluable to our business. Information gap in the sector was hindering the growth of the sector and this comes in handy for someone who is starting a business. Many MSMEs struggle to identify suitable service providers, leading to delays, inefficiencies, and increased costs. The directory provides a centralized platform where entrepreneurs can easily locate and connect with the services they need. As the service directory moves to be a digital platform we are keen to see a more expanded directory that will give us diversified information.”

The development of the MSMEs directory is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships.

“Public-private partnerships are essential for the growth and development of the MSME sector. By working together, we can leverage our strengths and resources to create solutions that benefit everyone. The MSMEs Directory is a prime example of what can be achieved when government and the private sector collaborate. We will continue as Dutch Church Aid to work with the ministry to improve the small to medium enterprises sector in Zimbabwe,” said Programme Manager of Dutch Church Aid, Olwin Manyanye.

Serving as an incubator to companies that will shape the future, MSMEs have been identified as key to fostering economic growth, as well as providing job opportunities and revenue cycles.
