MANICALAND province will host the inaugural Miss Uhuru beauty pageant alongside the national dress competition this Saturday as part of preparations for the country’s 44TH Independence celebrations set for Buhera.
Event organiser, Mr Logic Chiremba revealed that the beauty pageant has a national scope with contestants drawn from all the country’s 10 provinces.
“Our Miss Uhuru pageant is aimed at supporting young women. We have representatives from all provinces. We designed the pageant to promote the Zimbabwean culture and beauty through showcasing talent and creativity bent on celebrating the achievements of Zimbabwean women with beauty and brains from both urban and rural communities. This is in line with the theme on, ‘Unity, Peace and Development.’
“This is indeed a great deal for us models. I will be representing Manicaland province and being one of the contestants for the first time at the Miss Uhuru pageant and this excites us. We can’t wait for the great day on the 6th of April,” said pageant contestant, Amanda Simba.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza says the two events organised in conjunction with the Young Women4ED are meant to spice up the national Independence celebrations, “This Saturday we are going to have the Uhuru Beauty Pageant which is going to run concurrently with the Manicaland National Dress Competition fundraising dinner. It is important to note that this country now has a national dress that has been championed by the first lady and we thank her very much. The people of Manicaland are elated to have the uhuru and national dress competitions. The starting time is 7 pm so let’s attend the important functions in numbers.”
While the national dress competition is meant to advance the national identity, the pageant resonates with the drive to empower the girl child.
